Our Vision
WE INSPIRE ALL STUDENTS IN A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT AND ENCOURAGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUCCESS
Principal Article
Dear Parents/ Carers,
Costumes, colours, culture, and creativity have brought our school community together over the past weeks.
Thank you to all our wonderful staff for organising special events and exceptional opportunities for our students.
‘Little Voices, Loud Futures’
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, our students spent a block of time in the morning sunshine, engaged in art, play and sensory activity stations. Importantly, an Acknowledgement to Country commenced the event, followed by themed activities that celebrate the strength and culture of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and all, our children. Roaming the area, I saw children painting colours, catching play fish, creating art, playing with different textures and materials, with lots of big smiles.
Science Week
All things Science themed the week. Scientists were out and about, all over the school grounds. Scitech and Reminda visited our school and engaged students in inquiry-based learning, whilst staff were quizzed in a competitive round of science- based questions and answers.
“Read, Grow, Inspire,”
Book week is a much-anticipated event that aims to ignite a love of reading and books. Costumes, colourful displays, and activities themed the week. The book character dress up and book week assembly parade provided students the opportunity to lap the undercover area and show-off their days ‘get up’ to peers and staff. Staff were involved too, and I appreciated the hi-fives given by students as we walked our lap as well. What fun!
Sports Carnival
The anticipated annual sports carnival was a day of colours and events. From the faction march and chants, to running races, team games, modified game rotations, jump jam dancing and tug-a-war, there was an activity for everyone
Students were wearing their colours!
Swan – Blue Avon – Red Tuart – Green
Congratulations Tuart on the win!
Students hit the track for their running races!
Students wearing ribbons, with smiles on their faces!
The weather was perfect, sun was shining, and air was fresh- excellent conditions for our running track racers. I was fortunate enough to stand at the finish line and see the excitement in the student’s faces as they ran their race. The team games brought competitive fun, and our students participated on the same basis as their mainstream peers, for the day events. It was wonderful to see students in their colours and supporting their factions. I personally wore a multicoloured tutu in support of all three factions. I congratulate Tuart on the overall carnival win. Thank you to Westminster PS staff for facilitating a wonderful day. On days likes these, it makes me reflect and appreciate coming together, providing an invaluable experience for us all.
Thank you to all parents, carers, extended families, and community members who have attended these special events and school activities, as always, we warmly welcome you to join our festivities. Also, thank you to our wonderful P&C for your sausage sizzle and fundraiser on the day. It wouldn’t be a sports carnival without the smell of a sausage sizzle and most importantly, children’s energy levels restored.
I had a building meeting on Wednesday, and I am pleased to report that the build is on track for completion end of December 2023. I will continue to provide the school community updated information and progress reports as I receive it.
Sick Children
Parents and Carers, please keep your child at home if unwell. Staying away from school when sick, will help prevent infecting other students and staff. Together we can get through the last of the “flu season” together. For more information please see: School exclusion periods - infections, colds, COVID-19 | healthdirect
Kind Regards,

News from Room 24
In Health we are learning to be assertive and persistent in saying no when we feel unsafe. We made puppets and acted out the story “Don’t let the pigeon drive the bus” to practice saying “No!”
We are practicing saying, if items weigh the same, or more or less! We weighed all sorts of class items including shoes and socks!
F26 students are determined to learn to tie their shoelaces by the end of the year so we are practicing regularly. We are going to try to learn three different methods!
We have a new English activity where we read a question, find the answer and then use our best handwriting to write the answer. This follows a handwriting lesson focussing on correct formation and using sky, grass, dirt writing paper.
Mrs Bos helps us with playing djembe drums and we form a drumming circle and each have a go at making a drumming pattern, that the rest then follow.
We were very proud of Phoeniix, as he read beautifully to students at one of the activity stations on National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Children’s Day. The rest of us enjoyed rock painting, collage and head dress making. This celebration was lots of fun!
Our class enjoyed making healthy fruit kebabs. We had banana, strawberries, apple, grapes, orange, kiwi fruit and pear to choose from.
Science Dress up Day and Science Week
On the 17th of August we celebrated Science Week with Dress up Day. The sudents got creative flair on with their most creative and fun costumes.
To finish off our fun filled, action packed science week, we had Scitech incursion with staff presenting a show on the topic "Mix and Make Science". It was a fun and lively show, with interactive demonstrations that showcased different scientific processes.
REmida Incursion
In Year 1 to Year 6 the students had their engineering skills challenged and had lots of fun in the process as they built a marble run. They experienced science in action with the opportunity to use a variety of tools.
In Kindy and a few of the year 1's they participated in the Sights and Sounds Experience which incorporates different aspects of motion, music and play as students explored how materials can be used to create a host of different sensory experiences.
National Children's Day
Thank you to the HASS committee that prepared a range of activities to celebrate the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day. The theme was 'Little Voices, Loud Futures'. This day is to raise awareness for the bright futures of our children and the potential for their voices to pave a new path for our nation.
As always, we support the voices of our children in calling for a future where they are proud and empowered by their culture to speak their truth and be listened by all Australians. It was so lovely seeing the joy on the students faces as they participated in the activities.
