Our Vision
WE INSPIRE ALL STUDENTS IN A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT AND ENCOURAGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUCCESS
Principal's message
Dear Parents/Carers,
Hold on to your hats because we have a lineup of exciting events coming your way this term! From Science Week extravaganzas to Sports Day showdowns, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Starting with National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day Friday 4th of August. This year the theme is ‘Little Voices, Loud Futures’. This day is to raise awareness for the bright futures of our children and the potential for their voices to pave a new path for our nation. As always, we support the voices of our children in calling for a future where they are proud and empowered by their culture to speak their truth and be listened by all Australians.
Undercover area upgrade
We have recently upgraded the audio-visual equipment in the undercover area. This will assist our students to participate in assemblies, whole school activities and morning fitness.
Sports Carnival
We are very excited to have the sports carnival coming up on the 18th of August. This year, all students will participate in a combination of ESC specific activities and integrated events with mainstream. We encourage our families to come along and enjoy the days events. Following the events, if you choose to leave early with your child, you must sign them out via the front office and provide the teacher with the sign out card. See additional information about the sports carnival further down in the newsletter.
Education Support North Network Interschool Sports Carnival
This year, the ESNN network will be running the interschool sports carnival again. They will be facilitated over two days:
- Beldon ESC: Senior Sports Day (years 3 – 6) 5 September from 10 – 1.30pm
- Creaney ESC: Junior Sports Day (K – 2) 7 September from 10 – 1:30pm
All students will have an opportunity to participate in the interschool sports days, as it is about having fun and giving it a go. A range of events and activities will be schedules throughout the day to ensure that there is something for everyone. More information about these exciting days will be provided soon.
Building Program
If you have driven down Marloo Road over the past several weeks, you would have noticed a hive of activity on the building site. The new classroom block is starting to take shape, the performing arts centre is under construction and the slab for the new administration block is being laid this week. It is an exciting time for all staff, students and families as the new structures are erected. Our staff are being extra vigilant with our students who are displaying a keen interest in this intriguing activity, especially in the cranes and diggers! We are working closely with the Department to ensure student safety is always maintained. However, if you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards,
CARMEN LOPEZ

News from Room 7
The students in Room 7 have had a great start to Term 3, settling back into their routines well.
During Semester 1, the students became familiar with navigating our classroom independently using their own individual schedules. Students are now able to move through rotations, line up for fitness and move to crunch and sip with the use of their schedules and minimal teacher help. Students really enjoyed the hands on activities, play-based learning and developed great social skills along with this. Students became familiar with their peers and teachers through our morning mat sessions, this semester students are going to use this time to rehearse their greeting towards their peers and teachers as they now know all their names.
In the classroom students are using independant work stations. This sets the students up to work independently through the use of a tray system and differentiated work. Most of our students are now able to do this work totally independently and really enjoy it! We look forward to seeing them develop more independent work skills.
We also saw students show great improvements across all learning areas including
Maths and English through the use of hands on and sensory activities. We engaged in many activities including writing letters and numbers in sand and coloured rice, shaving foam on the windows and lots of sensory play with various types of materials. I look forward to seeing what the students can do in Semester 2.
The students have really enjoyed our cooking sessions in the first semester which helps them
develop their social skills such as turn taking by sharing ingredients and equipment with peers, oral language skills to discuss the recipes and request what they want and their fine motor skills for example having to spread butter on bread or smash biscuits to make chocolate truffles.
Each morning, the students go out for fitness where we practice our gross motor skills either in the
undercover area or on the playground. This term students will start practising for the sports carnival, where they will get to show off all their amazing skills.
So far this term, the students have settled in and are loving our new play corner which is themed
around Bunnings. The play corner is a great opportunity for students to practise their social skills and their oral language. Room 7 love putting on their safety glasses, high vis and hard hats and building whatever needs to be made! We have participated in shared reading activities too including Three Little Pigs where students then made houses out of marshmallows and toothpicks!
The team in Room 7 are looking forward to what amazing things the students are going to do in this very busy term!
Swimming Yr 4-6
In the last two weeks of term 2, students in years 4- 6 had great time having fun with their swimming lessons. A big thankyou to the Teacher's and Ea's who braved the cold weather by supporting the students in the pool!
STEAM Club
On Friday mornings in Term 2 we held "STEAM Club". Students were able to explore and experience Coding express train, Marble run, Magnetic tiles, virtual reality - Merge cubes, Beebots, water colour paint, smart microscopes and much more.
Well Done STEAM Team!

Save the Date - 2023 Sports Carnival
On Friday 18th August the Westminister ESC and Westminister PS are joining for their yearly sports carnival.
In preparation for the big day, students have recorded sprint times and been placed in their race divisions. There was lots of sideline cheering and encouragement by peers and staff during their races. Over the next two weeks, students will continue to practise their running races during morning fitness.
On the carnival day, during faction rotations, there will be two options for game events that will allow for full participation of every child. Students have been practising carnival games during morning fitness and some students, with Westminster PS during whole school practise on Friday afternoons.
A coffee van will be available for spectators as well as a sausage sizzle that our fabulous P&C are providing for the students. The P&C will be providing information on pre-ordering which is in this newsletter.
We are looking forward to dressing in our faction colours and joining the events!
A parent letter will be sent out next week with your child’s faction colour, itinerary for the day and further details.
Sports Carnival - Canteen
Lunch bags will be made available from the classrooms on the 7th August for Yr 1-6. Students and parents can write their order on the bags with their name and faction group. Please provide correct change inside the bag for the order. The canteen will be opened to receive these orders on the Thursday 10th and Friday 11th August. Pre-orders must be submitted by 9am. There will also be a limited supply of food available for purchase on the day.
