Term 2 - week 6
Our Vision
WE INSPIRE ALL STUDENTS IN A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT AND ENCOURAGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUCCESS
Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Carers,
Last week the teachers were busy completing student testing. This is an important element of our data collection, allowing us to make data driven decisions across the school. As we move into flu season, please be mindful of sending in your child when sick. You can notify us if your child is sick through the Schoolzine link on our website or by calling the office.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
The PBS Team have been working hard behind the scenes in developing lesson plans to ensure our students have opportunities to learn about our school values: Resilience, Respect and Relationships.
To support this, we have developed our PBS shields, which you will see posted on the wall outside the office.
Last week, our school came together to acknowledge the Stolen Generations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and reflected on how we can all play a part in the healing process. Staff wore purple and the students painted hibiscus flowers purple to make a collective display. The colour purple represents the Australian Native Hibiscus flower which is symbolic for the Stolen Generation peoples and represents their strength and resilience.
Kind Regards,
CARMEN LOPEZ

Pyjama Day and Community Disco Event
On Friday 16/06, we are fundraising for Year 6 Fun Week by dressing up in our warm winter PJs! Please bring a gold coin donation to support our Year 6’s.
P&C run Disco
We are also going to have our next community event on the same day (16/06) from 2-2.45pm in the undercover area. All classes will participate in the disco and parents are encouraged to come along, have a dance, chat with other families and meet members of our P&C. This is no cost event, and a fabulous opportunity to meet other members of our school community. Students who take the bus home, will be taken to the bus at their allocated time, as per normal.
News from Room 5
Room 5 students have had an excellent Term 2 so far. They have made exceptional progress with following routines and schedules, and it is wonderful to see how their confidence and independence have grown since Term 1.
During Morning Fitness, we have been practising different skills such as balancing, jumping, and throwing and catching. The students enjoy completing the Gymnastics obstacle course and it was great to see how far they can jump, after bouncing on the trampoline.
During HASS rotation on a Wednesday we have been investigating and exploring the concept of Past and Present. We looked at old and new toys, old and new technology and will finish the term looking at old and new. The students enjoyed making music with the old accordion and was a little weary about playing with the strange looking old dolls.
Our MATHS sessions have been very busy. The students enjoy participating in hands-on Maths activities such as measuring water and sand in different size containers, manipulating materials for counting and sorting and using the iPad Apps such as Mathseeds and Targetting maths.
In SCIENCE over term 1 we learnt about the Earth’s resources. We investigated each one by making a cumulative poster and participating in hands on activities. The students played with fans to learn about wind, made a rock with sand and glue, had a water race and made animal and plant art. Term 2 we have been learning about water sources. The students had a great time investigating where all the water sources are around the school and discovering the properties of water. We have just started a project involving lots of ramps and tubes to transport water. End products pending!
In ART we have integrated the theme with Science and made lots of nature art over term 1. Term 2 we have made water inspired art involving making our own prints
In LITERACY during our comprehension sessions, we have been revisiting
familiar stories by retelling with puppets, sequencing with visuals,
building parts of the story with Lego and learning about sentence
structure using the Colourful Semantics program. The students have
loved our hands on play scenes.
Outdoor Classroom Day
Our students participated in Outdoor Classroom Day which is a global movement to make time outdoors part of every child's day. They had an amazing day discovering & exploring the outdoors, enjoying fresh air, nature and sunshine. They were involved in various activities such as Nature Bracelet, Scavenger Hunt, Erupting Sand Volcano, Rock Painting, Rainbow Activity, Nature story Time and Textured art work.
