Principal's Article
Dear parents/carers,
Welcome to Term 4 – I trust everyone had a restful break, and each of you are looking forward to the last term for 2022. Term 4 is not only a term when there are ceremonies to mark the transitions to the next phase of learning journeys, but also a term when we plan for the following year.
Our leadership team are currently meeting and planning the strategic initiatives for 2023, and setting tasks to achieve these goals. Our Operational Plan comes from this and provides a roadmap for our staff to implement evidence based new initiatives, whilst extending the development of existing programs. The Westminster Education Support Centre’s values will continue to be the major focus for the whole school community, along with maintaining high standards of teaching and learning in the school.
Parliament House
On the 20th October, two year six students were selected to visit Parliament House and have lunch with our local member for Balcatta, Mr David Michael MLA. Hairi and Dirk were excellent representatives for our school. They were also lucky enough to bump into our Premier Hon. Mark McGowan who was just about to go for his mid-morning jog. Both Mr McGowan and Mr Michael were generous with their time chatting to Hairi and Dirk and providing great photo opportunities.
Westminster Education Support Centre would sincerely like to thank David for our invitation to Parliament House and his ongoing support of our school community.
Kiss and Drive
We would like to encourage all our families to use the Kiss and Drive on Ungaroo Road. There are always staff available to keep the traffic flow running smoothly even though at times it may seem congested. It is important not to attempt to Drop off and Pick up where it is marked ‘No Parking’ on the street, double park or block another person in. Most of all be respectful of our Westminster neighbours by avoiding parking on their gardens.
World Teachers Day
In Australia we celebrate World Teachers Day on Friday the 28th of October, which this year is a student free day, whilst staff will be participating in professional learning. World Teachers Day is an opportunity to celebrate our wonderful teaching staff at Westminster Education Support Centre. We appreciate all that they do for our students and families. We are so lucky to have such dedicated staff at our school.
School Development Day
Just a reminder that there is no school for students' this Friday 28th October.
Kind Regards,
Gary Hobson

News from Room 19
Room 19 have been very busy this year. Especially with moving into our lovely new classroom at the beginning of Semester 2 and we are enjoying our bright and roomy learning areas.
In Literacy, we love to study picture books, including Aliens Love Underpants, Edward the Emu and Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs.
In Maths, for measurement, we have been focussing on length. We have measured all sorts of objects in and around our classroom and playground, including things found in nature, and our own hands and feet.
During Auslan, we have been learning to sign different animals and have so far focussed on farm, zoo, Australian and ocean animals and next week we will be learning to sign different sorts of reptiles and insects! We can also converse, ask and answer questions in full sentences including “Welcome friends, have a great day”, “What is your favourite zoo animal” and “My favourite colour is …”
We have participated in lots of sports and activities this year during morning fitness, including ten pin bowling, football, t-ball, tennis, swimming, the athletics carnival, and are looking forward to continuing this with the Special Olympics program coming to our school this term.
We have also learnt about how our bodies feel when we have different emotions, including if we feel unsafe or scared and made a network helping hand of people we can go to if we feel this way.
The class are working hard and having lots of fun! Keep up the amazing work Room 19.
WADSA Music Incursion
Students had an exciting experience with WADSA incursion, exploring different musical instruments and cause & effect toys.
Year 4-6 Swimming
The students in year 4-6 loved attending swimming lessons at Balga Leisure Centre, such a great skill to be learning!

Possitive Behaviour Support
Positive Behaviour Support at Westminster Education Support Centre
‘Our purpose, through a consultative process is to develop a whole school common language that teaches and re-inforces expected behaviour in a positive and supportive learning environment to encourage success for all students.’
The Positive Behaviour Support framework we are implementing at our centre involves the staff designing specific lessons to teach our expected behaviours to students from our recently completed Behaviour Expectations Matrix that is now displayed in all classes and around the school.
All students have been explicitly taught our first expected behaviour which is; ‘We keep our hands, feet and body to ourselves’, so classes over the year levels have participated in various hands-on, engaging activities, song and stories to teach this concept. The students are then given specific, positive feedback on their behaviour progress.
Parents and carers are welcome to use the same common language at home by saying ‘I like how you remembered to keep your hands, feet and body to yourself, showing that you are being safe’.
There will be a new expected behaviour skill taught each fortnight so keep an eye out for updates or ask your class teacher.
The current behaviour expectation is " We are ready to learn"
