Term 3 Week 6
Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Carers
Sports Day
Last Friday was our Sports Day and what a fantastic day it turned out to be. The students looked great in their faction colours and demonstrated our school values perfectly respecting the rules of the games, developing relationships through great sportsmanship and showing resilience when they didn’t win by going back out there and trying again. Thank you to Mrs Smith and Mr Micevski for organising the day, as always it ran smoothly and was well executed. Thank you to the P&C for organising the food for the day, who doesn’t love a sausage sizzle.
Book Week
This week is Book Week. The theme is about stepping into your own story, dreaming with eyes open… listening to Country as the first storyteller…learning from friends who help you on your way. Book week is always a good time to re-iterate the importance of reading to your children and getting them to read as much as possible. Students that read or are read to just 20 minutes a day are exposed to over 1.8 million words a year. This leads to improvement in student’s imaginations and literacy. The students looked great in their costumes today at assembly, and the staff didn’t look half bad either.
NAIDOC Week
A couple of weeks ago the students had the privilege of attending a workshop run by Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse. The incursion focussed on the importance of keeping the Noongar language and culture current as well as learning original Noongar language songs. Thank you Mrs Jones, Mrs Beaton, Mr Humphries, Mrs Green and Mrs Ryder for organising this event. More NAIDOC activities will be held in Week 9.
Parking
Parents may access short term parking in the Kiss and Drive or street parking. Please do not park on the oval. The two disability parking spaces at the front of the school are for ACROD sticker holders only.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
Westminster ESC is a PBS school. Our purpose, through a consultative process is to develop a whole school common language that teaches and reinforces expected behaviour in a positive and supportive learning environment to encourage success for all students. You will see under the PBS section of this newsletter our Behaviour Expectations Matrix. This is now displayed in all the classrooms and around the school and is being explicitly taught to all the students. I encourage you to talk with your children at home about what behaviours are expected at school to re-inforce them.
Kind Regards,
Kirsten Dunn
Deputy Principal

News from K/PP
A Big Hello from K/PP. We can’t believe how fast our first year of school is going.
Look at us go, the things we have learnt so far, and the discoveries we continue to make each and every day, is awe inspiring.
We have been practising our bike safety, on our lovely new bike track. Christopher, Karim and Josiah, are learning to ‘stop’ at the sign.
During Maths, Grayson and Azai have been learning to order and write numbers to ten and beyond.
Our class divas enjoy Music and movement and have the coolest moves. Pearl, Aisha and Jerop show us how to dance and keep healthy.
Arian and Josiah enjoy being outdoors, climbing on the big and small steps, and singing “Row, Row, Row the boat”.
Lucinda, Aaraf, Grayson and Azai love playdough time. Azai gives a thumbs up to being at school with his friends.
Daniel also gives a thumbs up during Maths exploration activities, with his rhombus superhero mask.
We are all shining super stars in 2022!!
Scitech Incursion
Sci-tech brought a fun and interactive experience to our school on the 11th of August. The students thoroughly enjoyed watching and participating in thier own experiments.
