Term 3 - Week 3

Principal's Message

Welcome back to what will be an exciting term 3.

3 of our classes have moved in to the newly refurbished classrooms and the administration have moved into our temporary new offices.

At long last we now can start to see how the new school is going to look in the near future.

Whilst the building works have taken place and our community have been coping with the impact of covid,  it got me thinking about our school values and how much the school community has demonstrated them. Here is a sample of what things have challenged us in the past year and how we have used our school values.

Resilience

Staff, students and families have had to bounce back from either getting covid or caring for someone who has had covid.

Students and staff have had to continue working on their programs with continual absences.

We have had to work and continue to work around a campus where huge building works are taking place.

Respect

Even though we all have been dealing with the impact of Covid and the new build we have navigated through lots of change. However tough things have been, we have shown lots of understanding, being respectful of the environment and keeping safe.

We have also been remembering to be kind to ourselves and others, so that we continue to feel good about ourselves.

Relationships  

As the building work has progressed the layout of the school is evolving and changing. This has meant lots of the locations of classrooms in both schools have changed more than once. This has meant we have had to develop new friendships and learn to get on with new people, fostering a sense of belonging within the school community.

Providing our students with opportunity to understand and respect other people’s differences and similarities in order to build positive relationships and an inclusive environment. Developing students to share similar values of honesty, loyalty, trust and equality thereby fostering a sense of belonging within the school community.

These experiences have helped us all to cope with the changes and ups and downs of life.

Our Vision

News from Room 20

Term 3 has arrived and quicker than imagined. Our students have started the new term with excitement, and they are still enjoying their new surroundings inside and outside the classroom with easy access to a new basketball court. Room F25 has been very busy these first two weeks with a NAIDOC incursion and different indoor and outdoor activities like our Westminster Cross Country on Tuesday 26^th of July 2022:

Our students in Room F25 have had a great start in STEAM. For science they explored different materials (glass, wood, metal, plastic) matching them with real objects in their surroundings (windows, bench, climbing frame, water bottles) using the help of a telescope they designed to find them

Our students love painting and creating their own 3D deigns. Here in art, they are painting flowers from recycled materials, using different colours of their choice to create a bouquet of flowers, based on the work of art of the famous French painter Henry Rousseau.

Egg cartons were used for their bouquet of flowers, to reduce waste, as well as learning about clean and safe practices when designing their work.

In the mornings, our students are very engaged with their Morning News, Literacy, Maths and AUSLAN activities, and in the afternoons with subjects like HASS, Cooking and Social Skills.

AFL Sport Incursion

The children in years 4-6 are currently participating in an AFL skills program. The students are learning ball handling skills with lots of fun games. This is a program of 7 sessions enabling students to meet physical education outcomes and is run as the morning fitness programme. The sessions are run by the West Australian Football Commission and paid for by a Sporting Schools Grant. The sessions run over two weeks.
