Term 2 - Week 9
Our Vision
WE INSPIRE ALL STUDENTS IN A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT AND ENCOURAGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUCCESS
Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Carers,
Two weeks ago the Education Support staff had a walk through the building site and had an early peek at the newly renovated classrooms, staff room and temporary administration. We are now all really excited about what the new schools will look like in the future.
Stage one is now complete which means rooms 18 (Miss Fitzgerald), 19 (Miss Philips) and 20 (Miss Carroll and Miss Crook) will be moving into the newly renovated classrooms on the Ungaroo Road side of the campus. Also the Administration teams and reception from both schools will be temporarily locating on that side of the campus. Commencing next term the entrance to the education support centre on Marloo Road will be closed as demolition works will be commencing.
There will be a new kiss and drive open on Ungaroo Road which I recommend parents to use as there is easy access to disabled parking and the temporary reception and administration team.
We appreciate our families patience in regard to parking in around the school campus to date and it will continue to be difficult whilst the building works are in progress. Please can I remind people not to park in designated ACROD parking bays.
Packing is now taking place and the relocation of the 3 classes and our Admin will start to take place in weeks 9 and 10.
Hopefully when we open the newly renovated part of the school you will be as excited as we are with what the future school will look like once it is complete.
Finally, enjoy the school break and we look forward to seeing you all back safe and sound on Tuesday the 19th of July for what I’m sure is to be an exciting new chapter in the history of Westminster Education Support Centre.
Kind Regards,
Gary Hobson

Message from School Board Chair
Hello to all the Westminster Education Support Centre community. This note is to let you know about the School Board meeting held this month.
We were pleased to hear that the building works are progressing. While COVID is still creating issues with staffing, the school is currently in the process of recruiting more new staff. Staff have undergone professional learning related to the WESC values and approaches to behaviour support. The Annual Report for 2021 was distributed to Board members.
The Board was updated on progress on the Business Plan such as initiatives related to speech therapy support and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). Teachers are currently completing their mid-year review of the Operational Plan. We were provided with a budget update and learnt that a new, more representative school Finance Committee has been established. Updates to Occupational Health and Safety were provided too with COVID policies and requirements still requiring ongoing attention.
Board members discussed ways we might continue to support WESC and we were delighted to look at some aerial photos of the school in previous years and during the current building works. Our next meeting will be in Term 3. We wish everyone a smooth end to Term 2 and a relaxing break during the July school holidays.
Kind regards,
Associate Professor Susan Beltman
Chair WESC School Board

Simultananeous Story Time
We had a great time joining in the National Simultaneous Story Time for 2022. This year's picture book was Family Tree by Josh Pyke and Ronojov Ghosh. This story is all about celebrating family, community and seasons of life. After reading the book, our students created their own lovely family trees.
News from Room 18
The year 5 and 6 students in Room 18 have had a busy time at school during semester one. During term one and two they have done many exciting activities with money from Sporting Schools Grants.
Students have been taken to Zone Bowling Morley to participate in a Bowl Patrol Programme where they got to play two games of tenpin bowling and improve their bowling technique. Students received a red Bowl Patrol t-shirt, hat and water bottle.
A T-ball coach came to school and taught students the skills and rules of T-ball over 5 sessions on our school oval.
The students were taught the basics of tennis by the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots program coaches at our school on the basketball courts. This ran for 5 morning sessions.
Our school bike-riding programme also continued once a week. Students ride bikes with trainer wheels or without, and are supported to ride to the best of their ability while they learn about road rules and learn to recognise road signs.
The WA Disabled Sport Association people came to our school and ran the Ready Set Rec Program, which gave the students 3 sessions of sport and recreation activities. Students got to explore different modified activities and adaptive equipment to make music and play games that included archery and throwing games.
Of all the activities the students have loved our weekly cooking programme the most. They have done lots of mixing of batter, combining ingredients and whisking eggs and butter.
They have measured out ingredients, sprinkled cheese and flipped pancakes.
But the biggest smiles came with eating the pancakes, coconut cookies, ANZAC cookies, jam slice, macaroni cheese, cheese puffs, pizzas and toast and also drinking hot chocolate. Our cooking day is Monday but we have had toast and hot chocolate afternoon tea on a couple of occasions, which the students also love!
