2022 Term 1 Week 6
Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Carers,
We are now past the halfway point in the term and students have maintained positive learning habits and behaviour across the school even whilst being disrupted by cases of Covid in school. We are looking forward to the second half of the term, with many exciting events planned for our students.
I would like to recognise Kirsten Dunn our Deputy, on her nomination for Women of Achievement Award.
Please remember to keep your child home if they are unwell and please notify the office of all absences.
We will continue to keep you up to date with Covid-19 correspondence through email and on our facebook page.
Congratulations to our staff members Kirryn Phillips and Ray Donker on completing their Team Teach trainer professional learning. This is a huge investment which will ensure the staff have access to internationally acclaimed student behaviour support systems and manual handling.
Kind Regards,
Gary Hobson

Message from the School Board Chair
Greetings to the whole Westminster Education Support Centre community and welcome to the 2022 school year. At the Term 1 School Board meeting we agreed it might be useful to communicate through the newsletters to share some of the things we discuss in our meetings.
In our term 1 meeting in February, we were sorry to hear that the whole school site building works are behind schedule but thank all the staff and school families for their hard work and patience under difficult circumstances. On the positive side we were delighted to hear that WESC enrolments continue to increase as word of mouth spreads the news that this is a great place to be! We welcome new students, their families, new teachers, and Education Assistants to support them.
At the meeting we also discussed the impact of COVID and related Occupational Health and Safety measures, had input into the updated school values, heard about new initiatives such as STEAM teaching and activities due to sporting grants, and discussed the new school Business Plan and budget. We congratulated WESC leaders and staff who, despite the uncertainties 2022 has brought, are remaining positive and moving forward with new initiatives. Our next meeting is in May, Term 2.
Kind regards,
Associate Professor Susan Beltman,
Chair WESC School Board
News from Room 5
What a wonderful start to 2022 we have had in Room 5. Mrs. Ellert and Mrs McCulloch are so proud of all the students and the way they have settled into the classroom routine. They are working hard at becoming independent learners and have embraced the new rotation timetable with positivity and enthusiasm. Literacy and Maths have been dived into with all students embracing new skills and consolidating information from last year.
We are learning about Protective Behaviours: Feeling safe and Staying safe, in Health and in HASS we are learning about our First Nations culture and the First Fleet. We had fun investigating Aboriginal artefacts and painting the story ‘Welcome to Country’ with water colours.
We are full STEAM ahead in Science, Technology and Art…
We are investigating life cycles of plants and animals in Science and will soon commence on our mini garden project. The class loved making an insect to consolidate our learning about how to classify them. Each creation even had their own superpower! They have also been adding to our class word wall with all the new Biological Science vocabulary we are learning.
In Art on a Friday afternoon we have been designing and making both 3D and 2D works of art using nature as our inspiration.
Cooking has commenced straight away with some of our students showing fantastic kitchen skills, I think we may have some budding chefs in the class!
We are looking forward to the rest of the term as we have some fantastic programs planned and to see the growing friendships blossom.
Our Super Stars
Well done to all our hard working students who have been earning stickers for their reward chart.
