Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

A warm welcome back to all our families and community members. I hope the School Holiday break with your children was a time of rest, recharge and provided lots of opportunity to catch up with family and friends.

ANZAC DAY

In week one we held our ANZAC ceremony with Westminster Primary. The students recognised our ANZAC’s and honoured their loyalty, selflessness and courage through respectfully listening to our guest speaker Mr Gerard – Nollamara RSL Veteran and listening quietly to Mr McCormack playing the Last Post on his bugle. I would also like to thank Westminster Primary School students Isma and Stephanie for leading the event.

ESNN CONFRENCE

On Friday our staff attended the Education Support Network North 21^st Century Conference at the Perth Convention Centre along side 800 professionals. The Wandumbah Dance Group opened the conference with the Welcome to Country with a brilliant performance showcasing Bibullmun culture through music, dance and storytelling. This was followed by an opening address by The Director General Lisa Rodgers and then an address by myself as the Network Principal. The Keynote speaker was professor Andrew Whitehouse who is based in WA and is at the cutting edge of National and International research into the identification and intervention for children with Autism Spectrum Conditions. Following Andrew was 11 concurrent sessions and workshops which provided all attendees to learn about some of the most current research and practice in education support.

Just as we started the new term we then entered a three day COVID lock down. But in true Westminster spirit we have returned to school motivated and excited to put into practice some of the new things we have learnt from the conference.

Finally, I would thank you for your understanding with these social distancing measures as we continue to put the safety of our students as our main priority.

News from Room 5

What an exciting start of Term 2 it has been! With the holiday excitement and then Lockdown weekend now over, we are almost back to normal.   In Room 5 we learn to work together and play together.  The favourite part of our day is ‘Social Play’ at the end of every day.  This is when we are learning to share, negotiate, communicate, be kind and include our friends.  But, it is not all play in Room 5.  We are also working hard towards achieving our individual learning goals in our everyday small group learning sessions.  

In HASS we are learning about Australia and this past week we learned about the ANZACs.

The children discussed their thoughts on Anzac Day.

                         Amelia said:  “We use Poppies to remember the soldiers”

                         Indi said:  “We remember the soldiers and they ate Anzac cookies to give them energy”

                         Salah said: “We go to the Dawn service”

In Science we have been investigating different clouds and what they are called. We loved using the iPads to take photos of clouds.  We also had fun investigating shadows and seeing the different shapes each of our shadows can make.
